As you're all aware Drunk Prom Date was known as the Five Chinese Brothers back in their boy band days during the mid 80's. DPD's intense love for fine china, china pandas and china white spawned from those early tours opening for a-ha and Kajagoogoo. So it's no surprise that Drunk Prom Date has taken a special interest in the multi-cultural event known as the PF Chang's Rock n Roll Marathon this Sunday January 15th . The band feels there's no better way to get the DPD musical experience out to the masses than by capturing the attention of 15,000 exhausted and fatigued runners as they're forced to listen during the minimum 87 seconds it takes to pass by the Drunk Prom Date stage on the 23rd mile of a 26.1 mile run.
And with unlimited access to whiskey and Wan Fu (a semi-dry French table wine) last year's marathon took an interesting turn when Ethiopian Belay Wolasha leapt up on stage and proclaimed that he had to "Fight for his Right to Party" thus allowing his ridiculous lead over Kenyan's Haron Toroitich to drop from 30 seconds to 3. But that's to be expected at the only stop along the marathon that tailgates like drunken Packer fans.
So you're encouraged to attend church on Saturday night and wake up early on Sunday to party in the streets of Tempe. For those of you who can make it there will be delicious grub from Monkey Pants Bar & Grill and beverages from some random liquor store, for those who don't make it there will be eggs and toilet paper on your porch. And for the weary runners who are hitting the wall, the DPD boys love to share needles and alcoholic drinks, so stop by for a shot of adrenaline with an ice cold glass of sweet Wan Fu or tasty hop beverage at mile 23 at the Big Surf entrance.
